Rider Review: 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 800

Submitted by: Jim

I am a new motorcycle rider. It took me 55 years to get my first bike so when I went looking I really didnt know what to expect. Everyone wants a H-D but as a first bike I did also but thought it was too expensive. I went shopping to a few local dealers - Honda - Suzuki - Yamaha and Kawasaki. All the dealers were helpful but some tried to push a bigger bike on me because of my height (6' 6"). The dealer I kept going back to was the Kawasaki dealer, he told me bigger would be better a few years down the road but right now as a new rider the 800 was the best bike for me. He called it the biggest and best of the medium size. I have only put 1400 miles on it so far but it is everything he said . The bike is truly a cruiser with style - I resdie in the hills of northeast PA and my rides are mostly through the back country roads. Nothing like cruising on a nice spring day - God, nature and you with your bike - riding as one.

The Vulcan, although an 805CC, gives me the best of both world. It has enough pick up to keep up with the bigger bikes when on the highway and comfortable for the longer rides when you just want to be out riding. It is difficult to put into words the feeling I get when out riding but I know I dont have to because I am sure every biker feels it.

Thanks for letting me express myself -- Safe riding -

I am sure you could find a bike that has more of everything but for the price I dont think there are any others to compare with the Kawasaki.
