Review: 2002 Suzuki VZ800 Marauder |

I
took delivery of a 2002 Suzuki Marauder 800 about 2 months ago.
With 1200 miles on the speedo., I have loved every minute of it.
Mine is blue and silver which seems to be a completely new color
scheme for Suzuki. I looked at the black, but the Marauder name
was highlighted in yellow, and I didn't really like it.
I
must start off by saying that this is my first bike. EVER. I had
been on motorcycles two times. The first resulted in laying underneath
a Suzuki 650 dual sport in the middle of a field (note to self:
don't engage the clutch while talking with a friend with the bike
in gear) and the other was the MSF course. My first ride on the
road was bringing my 'rauder home. I am pretty partial to my bike,
but who isn't? So, here's my completely uneducated evaluation:
PROS:
- Fun:
This is a sporty little bike with plenty of pep. It definitely
is a power source. I have ridden its cousin, the Intruder, and
though it seems to have a faster "off the line" time,
the Marauder has an incredible power that is unbelievable. I
am pleased to find that it hangs just fine with any speeds,
highway or otherwise. As a matter of fact, it will go as fast
as I want to go. At this point, that's 75 if I feel brave. I
was happy to take it on the interstate two up with absolutely
no complaints (besides the passenger seat - see CONS).
- Looks:
This is a great looking bike. They say that beauty is in the
eye of the beholder, but come on. The Marauder has a much stockier
build than many in its weight class while keeping its dry weight
comparitively low.
- Comfort:
I have found this driver's seat to be extremely comfortable.
I was very concerned about the seat when I ordered my '02 because
the previous years' seats have been AWFUL. Painful. Not this
year. The seat is great. Very comfortable. If it wasnt for the
passenger seat (I'm getting to it), I would not want to change
seats at all.
CONS:
(Not a big deal, but included)
- Passenger
Seat: Its awful. My wife only lasted 20 minutes
before her backside was numb. I sat on the thing, and I think
I've thrown bricks that would be more comfortable.
- Slow
riding:
This machine is built to haul. It does not particularly like
riding slow. If 15 miles an hour steady is your game (or lot
in life depending on the commute), this might not be for you.
- Helmet
Locks:
The helmet locks are under the seat and require removal of the
seat to use. I prefer the standalong helmet locks. Just a preference.
All
in all, I love my 'rauder and would recommend it to anyone. If
you have any questions, email me anytime.
