Yamaha's
Virago 250 has been the main competition of Honda's
Rebel 250 for years. It's the only 250cc bike
offered in the U.S. that features a V-twin engine, which makes
it more desirable for admirers of classic cruiser design. The
Virago puts out more power than the Rebel, and its chassis is
longer, which makes it a bit more stable at freeway speeds.
Both bikes are wonderfully easy to learn on and bulletproof,
though the Virago is a bit more the overachiever. Seat height:
27 inches.
The
250 Virago is my personal fave of the 250 street cruisers.
Thanks to the characteristic V-twin exhaust note the V'go
really ranks high in the cool factor. Add to that the characteristic
V-Twin torque makes the Virago feel faster based on the
"seat of the pants" dyno, although on paper the
Rebel comes in with higher marks. Once you et over the notorious
"Virago Pods" (the air filters) the bike really
has some nice lines, and add to that some great frame geometry
the mini-V2 is a great place to start, although it is the
highest priced 250 from Japan. I give it an A rating for
the new rider.
This
is a tremendous beginnner bike. Its great looks, great cornering
ability and comfortable seat makes this bike perfect for
around town or long trips.
