This machine features a great engine--the Ninja 500's bulletproof vertical twin with an altered carb configuration for more cruiser-esque mid range grunt. If you're not set on a cruiser with a V-twin gurgling underneath you, this is one of the better alternatives. The 500 LTD is inexpensive, especially given the performance it offers, and low, which means confidence inspiring. Like the other Vulcan's, its seat is mercifully generous. Seat height: 28.1 inches.

Good bike, a little powerful.

This will be the only mid size cruiser I'll give an A for. Despite offering more pep than most of the middle-weight cruisers, the 500 Vulcan offers beginner grade user freindly frame geometry so it's an easy one to learn on. Stylewise the bike beckons for a V-Twin, it has that laid back V2 cruiser styling but with a parallel twin motor instead, that "one jug" profile really throws it off visually but the extra power makes up for it.
