The
venerable Intruder has been around since 1986, and continues
to be one of the most popular introductory cruisers. It features
laid-back styling, shaft-drive (a blessing), and a host of aftermarket
accessories to fine tune the ride you want. It has proven to
be reliable, easy to ride, and desirable. Seat height: 28.9
inches.
I'm
giving this one my typical mid-sized cruiser B rating. The
800 Intruder tips the scales at two pounds less than Honda's
chrome laden 600 Shadow (although the VLX Standard is still
lighter), and with a slightly shorter wheelbase the Intruder
makes for a nice handler around town. However, the 36º
rake (and long trail dimension) is not only the most angled
in its class, it's also the longest rake in any production
bike as well (also shared with the larger 1400 stablemate).
Therefore slow speed maneuvers will take a little time to
get used to, hence the B rating.
